ALGONA to NEW HAMPTON 182 - Day 39

THE SECOND IRON MAN LENGTH
really truly, now they are done and i can say i have done two iron man lengths of cycling.
Today i rode with....you guessed it ANNETTE, JENNA ,ZINGER and JEFF, for the first half...then JEFF, JON, JUSTIN and BRAD and I. We did have a headwind, and a cross wind, which made todays ride a little longer...

DRAFTING TRACTORS: is something boys do, and i will learn how soon---because...that means i don't have to work so hard to catch back up with them when the tractor leaves.....OKAY we were standing at a gas station in some small town today, when Jon said, i wish there was a tractor that i could draft, not even 1 minute goes by and this tractor pulls out with two feeder wagons attached...and out we rip from the gas station...i lost the draft right away for there were four other boys fighting for it... i managed to stay behind...and catch up after the tractor turned off...but that was 9k later when i was hauling butt at 30 some k an hour just to stick with them.
This was the second tractor of the day.
The first tractor was on the way into that town....and i was IN FRONT OF IT THE WHOLE time when 3 others were behind it... see i was going faster than the tractor, but it would be nice to draft sometime and not have to pedal..but then i wouldn't be part of the EFI club then...

THE BRICK: I was apparently used today as 'the brick' (which i did terribly) see the brick is the one who is supposed to maintain the speed for the last 20, 30 k of the day so you don't over expend yourself, or 'bonk' well, me as brick is not a good idea, for as soon as i see someone further ahead of me, my goal is to catch up with them, and if there is a hill, i zoom down it to get up the next...i maintain good steady cadence....but i like to go...so the guys kept shouting at me to BE THE BRICK---i was also anxious to get the last 30 k done, so i wouldn't have to sit on my bike any longer....

I AM BORED OF CORN : we see fields and fields and fields and fields of this stuff...and lately i am thinking what is all the uses of this corn... there's popcorn, tortilla chips...used for bio gas - ethanol...feed for animals, heating the home in corn stoves... but really, this many fields...(it is also a wonderful many stalled facility for us women...along the road when towns are few and far between, all you have to do is go in a few rows and bingo, insta-privacy-insta-walls, and a lovely place for business...hope the farmers are down with this).

Hey Jules!

Glad to hear you are doing well. We're thinking about you and praying for you every day. Have you met my Uncle Peter and Aunt Rita Beerda yet? they joined the tour in Denver. I hope your scrapes soon heal, but maybe if you're lucky you'll get to keep a small scar...like a sea to sea tattoo!

Lotsa love,

Becks

Julia,

According to my father (and I guess he might know..) the state of IOWA grows more corn than all of Canada. This may be why you are seeing so much of it!! You should play hide and seek one nigth after biking...if you're bored...
