Seattle to Sultan - 90 some km

Today has been a lovely riding day. We were all up pretty early (5:30-6ish)to get our stuff down to the gear truck and ready for the 8 mile ride from the university, down to Golden Garden Beach, for the tire dipping. Quite a sensational moment when all the riders dipped their tires in the ocean to start the SEA to SEA journey. Today we rode with our safety training groups and leaved in two minute intervals from the golden gate beach. My group also had in it the tandem bikers and a trike recumbent bike. WE fared quite well as a group of twelve, we had one flat tire – Lawrence L and one busted chain just as we were almost done going up the long hill. (The busted chain was mine) Which made for an interesting moment…but gloriously Bud, a sea to sea helper was deciding to ride the roads with his vehicle and watch for those who needed aide…well I surely did…since I didn’t have the master link…all this new stuff I am learning… rim tape , masterlink…what’s next?
So I was brought to a bike shop we had just passed approximately 10 km back, the bike was fixed and in my hands in no time…happy me… and on the road I was. Bud brought me up the road and dropped me off a little past where I stopped to a different group, but somehow I managed to catch up with my original group for they had stopped on the side of a road to eat some snacks and fuel up. The rest of the ride in was pretty smooth sailing… what with a break or two..
Then we got into camp for the first time…set up the tent and get your bed ready was interesting…there were a bunch of people who found a place to go swimming about 2 km up the road, and just after I had a glorious shower, I headed out to go swimming with some of the crew… it was FRIGID, like just melted ice/snow coming down from the mountain…what we did was we hopped in up the river and let our selves come down with the crazy current…I could only do this once before my body was severely frozen, or so it felt…that was a great cool down for a very warm day. The evening was quite quiet and regular, supper and then a peleton meeting and then a meeting with small groups…. After all that you start to get ready for the next days ride, get out your gear and have your stuff ready for the morning. I missed playing poker/euchre with a group because I was wandering around, chatting with people and making sure all was well. WHAT A DAY, I am going to post this as is and at photos later.
LOVE you all!!

Great pictures, bringing me right back to 2005 when we dipped our tires in Vancouver.
Maybe I should have joined the 2008 tour.
Tomorrow my sea to sea cycling partner Maggie comes to visit.
Who built your bike? Broken chain?
How many tandem and other bike types?
Great strength tomorrow for the long climb.
